November 26, 2024 - Revelstoke’s Living Wage Rises to $25.50 per hour

Revelstoke’s living wage climbed to $25.50 per hour in 2024, marking an increase of 3.6% from last year to accommodate the cost of essentials which continues to balloon across Canada, particularly for housing and food.

Council and staff are excited to welcome Ryan Watmough as the new Director of Community Economic Development (CED) for the City of Revelstoke. Mr. Watmough will begin at the City on September 9, 2024.

Firefighters Actively Attempting to Put out the Structure Fire of Ol’ Frontier Family Restaurant

August 24, 2024 - The Ol’ Frontier Family Restaurant complete loss in structure fire

Revelstoke Fire Rescue responded to a commercial structure fire call at 00:11 a.m. at the Frontier Motel site on Highway 23 North. While the loss of this memorable piece of history shocked the community and our visitors, we are grateful to report that no injuries to fire crews or motel occupants have been reported.

The City of Revelstoke was alerted to a vehicle incident on the Fourth Street Bridge on Thursday, August 1, at approximately 11:50 a.m. Two people were involved in the incident, they were immediately transported to the hospital for assessment.

Public Works Crew Making Repairs to a Fourth Street Bridge

July 25, 2024 - Structure Fire of the Oscar Street Block, Revelstoke, BC

The Revelstoke Fire Department was called for a possible structure fire on the 1200 block of Oscar Street on Wednesday, July 24. The response to the incident included two fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, and a command unit among the 14 firefighters.

July 11, 2024 - Structure Fire at Columbia Park 

On Wednesday, July 10, Revelstoke Fire Department received a call for a residential structure fire in Columbia Park at 4:40 p.m. The Fire Department responded quickly with one command vehicle, five fire apparatus and 21 Firefighters. The fire was quickly stopped by the first responding engine.

June 14, 2024 - New water regulations effective immediately

Council adopted Water Regulations Amendment Bylaw No. 2384, in recognition of the importance of water security and responsible water consumption. 

The City of Revelstoke has implemented a four-stage water usage restriction plan for outdoor water usage effective immediately. The regulations apply to all properties in Revelstoke that use City water - residential, commercial, industrial & institutional.

June 3, 2024 - Proposed Amendments to the Revelstoke Water Regulations Bylaw 

In recognition of the importance of water security and responsible water consumption, City staff have worked with Council to explore ideas to ensure Revelstoke has enough water to provide residents with continued levels of services – even if the drought conditions, seen across BC, continue.

Last year, Revelstoke experienced “Stage 2” restrictions for the first time ever. After experiencing this as both staff and community members, City staff determined a need to create middle stages to reduce the stark contrast of regulations experienced in 2023.

May 31, 2024 - Council approves Heritage Management Plan

On Tuesday, May 28, City Council approved the Heritage Management Plan, a plan created to “safeguard the valued features of Revelstoke and its natural and cultural heritage.” 

“The Heritage Advisory Commission is grateful and thankful to Denise Cook, Planning Staff, the City’s Indigenous Liaison Dale Tomma, and the Community for their great work on this important document for the present and future of Heritage Management in the City of Revelstoke. The Heritage Management Plan…will be an undeniable asset and an important tool for Revelstoke to preserve its heritage and even more.” Senior Planner, Erica Hartling, on behalf of the Chair of the Heritage Advisory Commission, Laurie Lafontaine. 

The plan represents a commitment by the City, and the wider Revelstoke community, to increase efforts to sustain all aspects of Revelstoke’s heritage as a fundamental part of the City’s future.

A FireSmart program focuses on actions that communities can take to increase their resiliency to wildfire. The grant has been awarded through the provincial government’s Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) Program.

April 10, 2024 - Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Teck Cup Champions 

Last night, our local hockey team, the Revelstoke Grizzlies, took the Teck Cup for the third consecutive year! The team had a 7-1 victory over the Fernie Ghostriders in the Fernie Memorial Arena. To celebrate, (whether you’re a hockey fan or not!) put on your Grizzlies colours, dress in your favourite hockey jersey or simply grab your umbrella and meet them at Grizzly Plaza today at 5 p.m.!

Brush Fire Encroaching on Playground

April 8, 2024 - Small Brush/Grass fire quickly doused in Revelstoke

Revelstoke fire crews quicky extinguished a grass fire near several commercial and residential properties in the Farwell Park area on Saturday afternoon.

At around 4:00 p.m., a call came in advising of a brush fire located at 1400 1st Street West, in Farwell Park.

In 2023, contractors for the City of Revelstoke completed a portion of the First Street Water Main Replacement Project, identified in the City’s Water Master Plan (2022). This summer, the City of Revelstoke will continue the construction of the Water Main Replacement and Rehabilitation Program.
