Emergency Preparedness Links and Resources:
During an emergency, the City of Revelstoke's Emergency Management Team works in real-time to address threats to our community. The emergency status is decided by the Province of British Columbia. This decision is typically made by the Minister responsible for emergency management, based on the severity and impact of the situation. If declared, the City works collaboratively with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) and multiple key stakeholders such as BC Wildfire Services, BC Hydro, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and Interior Health. The declaration allows the government to access additional resources and implement measures to protect public safety and manage the emergency effectively.
However, even the best of plans by your local government can only do so much. It is important that you, the resident, follow these steps to Emergency Preparedness at home or at work:
- Know the Hazards
- Make a Plan
- Build a Kit
- Sign up for Alerts
- Create a profile for Emergency Support Services with the Evacuee Registration and Assistance (ERA) tool before an emergency occurs.
Additional resources that may be helpful for planning include:

- Get Prepared (Government of Canada)
- Research has shown that a house with both a fire-resistant roof and a FireSmart zone surrounding it is 85 percent more likely to survive a wildfire than one that is not so prepared. Read about FireSmart here.
Roles and Responsibilities
The City of Revelstoke actively works with the province through Emergency Management BC (EMCR) to prepare for and respond to emergencies that occur within the City and Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area B (RAEMP). If the need arises, the City will activate an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) which will coordinate the response efforts for the impacted areas. The EOC liaises with external agencies to gather and disseminate the most accurate and relevant data this includes evacuation updates and Emergency Support Services (ESS). The City will work to keep residents informed about Emergency Support Services (ESS) available to evacuees and information about best practices.
