Corporate Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory and Reduction Strategy

In 2011, the City of Revelstoke adopted a Corporate Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory and Reduction Strategy.   Since 2011 the City of Revelstoke has been collecting data on the City’s operational emissions to quantify energy consumption and energy spending to get a better understanding of the City’s carbon footprint.

Since 2007, the City annually calculates how much energy was consumed for City operations, the total energy cost and the total GHG Emissions in tCO2e. This includes monitoring how much energy is used in municipally owned buildings, including the water and waste water treatment facility, how much electricity was used for streetlights and traffic signals and how much gas, diesel and propane was used in City owned vehicles. Generally, the City of Revelstoke is decreasing the total corporate GHG emissions but will be updating the Corporate Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory to be a leader in the community to reach the community wide emissions targets.
