January 9, 2014 - New Emergency Program Manager Assigned

January 10, 2014 - Revelstoke Highway Rescue Truck Replacement 

On December 20, 2013, the Revelstoke Highway Rescue Truck was involved in a single vehicle incident in which none of the 6 firefighters on board were injured. As a result of this incident the Highway Rescue Truck was taken out of service indefinitely due to severe drive train and frame damage. Neighbouring highway rescue service organizations assisted Revelstoke during this period. View Media Release

January 15, 2014 - Arrival of New Aerial Platform Apparatus 

The City of Revelstoke has received confirmation that its’ new Aerial Fire Truck (“Ladder 6”) is on route to Revelstoke. View Media Release

January 15, 2014 - 2014-2018 Financial Budget Process Update

The citizens of Revelstoke provided valuable input on operational and community priorities last night at a well attended Town Hall Meeting. The City also received public comment through the City’s online reporting tools, public consultation on specific programs, and contact directly with the Mayor and Councillors throughout the year. January 22, 2014 - Revised Reduced Budget to be Presented February 4

After taking into consideration all public comments and department presentations from City staff, at a Special Council Budget Meeting on January 22, 2014, Council resolved to have staff prepare two budget scenarios for their consideration.  View Media Release

January 29, 2014 - Council Awards Spirit Fest Funding Support

City Council recognized the accomplishments of the event at a Council meeting last night and agreed to provide a grant-in-aid that will cover the costs of facility use at the Community Centre. View Media Release

January 31, 2014 - Council Considers 2014-2018 Financial Plan with a Lower Tax Rate 

The City has prepared a draft 2014-2018 Financial Plan that calls for an overall tax increase of just under 2%. The Plan demonstrates financial success in many areas including no new borrowing commitments in 2014, a sequential reduction of debt, and the transition to building of reserves. This financial plan continues the gradual transition of a reduction in business taxation. View Media Release

February 4, 2014 - Council Progresses with Revitalization Bylaw

Council moves forward positively with the development of a Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw. Council has scheduled time at the Community Goals and Objectives Workshop on March 11, 2014 with the intention to develop a revitalization tax exemption bylaw and related policy. View Media Release

February 4, 2014 - Tax Increase Set at Less Than 2%

At the February 4, 2014 Special Council Meeting, Council endorsed a revised 2014-2018 Financial Plan based on a tax rate increase of 2% for residential taxes and 1% for business taxes. After an exuberant, well received public consultation period; Council has endorsed what is marked to be the lowest residential tax increase in 10 years with an increase of just under 2% for property owners. February 6, 2014 - City Completes Fire Hydrant and Streetlight Replacement Plan 

The 2013 Council Goals and Objectives required the development of a fire hydrant and streetlight replacement plan. Council has approved funding for these two plans outside of the regular Operating and Maintenance budget. Staff will be submitting the reports to Council at the February 11, 2014 Council Meeting. February 18, 2014 - City is Prepared to Receive Federal Infrastructure Funding

The New Building Canada Plan by the Federal Government introduces $53 billion for provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure spending over the next decade, with $33.2 billion dedicated solely to municipal infrastructure. The City of Revelstoke is strategically prepared to apply for funding both in the short term as well as long term. View Media Release

May 9, 2014 - City Addresses Vacation Rental Issue 

Following Council direction, City staff are moving forward with proposing bylaw changes to address the complex issue of vacation rentals at the May 13, 2014 Council meeting. The proposed Amending Bylaw is designed to define and regulate conditions including public health and fire protection for vacation rentals in the single and two family residential zones.

June 11, 2014 - New Playground for Big Eddy

City staff have completed the Big Eddy Neighbourhood Park Playground Revitalization Project. The revitalization project consists of a seven foot expansion to the existing playground area as well as replacement of the existing playground equipment. For complete story click here

June 26, 2014 - City Reports on Mandatory Remuneration

Provincial law requires all municipalities to release information about the remuneration paid to employees earning more than $75,000 (including taxable benefits) by the end of June. For complete story click here

July 18, 2014 - New Sidewalk for Nichol Road

City crews will begin work on the highly anticipated Nichol Road sidewalk on Monday, July 21, 2014. The sidewalk will help to make the journey to school safer for children that attend Arrow Heights Elementary, and for residents who live and walk in the area. For complete story click here 

August 14, 2014 - Construction Begins for New and Improved Second Street Access

Improvements to the Second Street access at City hall are scheduled to begin on August 18, 2014. These changes have been made possible through partial funding from the Resort Municipality Initiative and City budgeting, and are designed to provide a public social gathering area as well as a new more convenient main access into the building. August 21, 2014 - City Ready for 2014 Local Election 

The City is preparing for the local government election which will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Revelstoke Community Centre. The citizens of Revelstoke will elect one mayor, six councillors and five school trustees.

August 29, 2014 - City Awarded for Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The City received an award from the Province’s Green Communities Committee and the Union of BC Municipalities acknowledging its’ accomplishments and successful efforts to measure and reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions. For complete story click here 

September 17, 2014 - Revelstoke “Open for Business” Award Finalist

The Province announced Revelstoke as one of the 13 finalists for the 2014 Open for Business Awards, which recognize communities that support small business through local-government measures.
