December 30, 2017 - Rural Fire Protection Services provided by the City of Revelstoke in a Specified Area within Area B of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District

Fire Chief Robert Girard and Allan Chabot, Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Revelstoke attended the Supreme Court hearing in Vancouver, B.C. on December 28th, 2017, of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District’s (CSRD) application for an injunction to require the City to provide fire suppression services to a Specified Area of Electoral Area B until the trial of this matter, which would likely not be heard at the earliest until late 2018 but more probably in 2019.

November 20, 2017 - Revelstoke Public Works Changes Garbage App Provider

The City of Revelstoke has changed service providers for the app that offers information about our waste management collection and programs. The Recycle Coach™ app is free to download and it is available from the iTunes Store and Google Play.  There is a quick one time set-up process to personalize the information to where you live that includes setting up your personalized pick-up and event schedule. 

Recycle Coach integrates with SeeClickFix, the City’s online reporting tool which has been well used by residents for a number of years.

October 16, 2017 - City Awarded Level 3 Recognition for Reduction of Green House Gas Emissions

The City received its third award from the Province’s Green Communities Committee and the Union of BC Municipalities acknowledging its’ accomplishments and successful efforts to measure and reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions.

September 12, 2017 - Break and Enter at City of Revelstoke Animal Shelter

There was a break and enter at the City of Revelstoke Animal Shelter on Monday, September 11, 2017 between the hours of 10am and 5pm. The RCMP and City of Revelstoke staff began their investigation last night. Taken from the facility was a dog which was seized by a City of Revelstoke Bylaw Enforcement Officer because it was involved in an attack on a young girl.

July 28, 2017 - Building Permit Values to Date exceed year 2016 and 2015

The City of Revelstoke has issued 62 building permits to date representing more than $22,000,000.00 in construction value. By way of comparison the total value of permits issued in 2016 and 2015, respectively, were $19,300,000.00 and $15,100,000.00.

Recent staff turnover and vacancies in the Development Services and Engineering Departments has resulted in a backlog of building permit applications with twenty-seven complete applications awaiting processing by staff as new building permit applications continue to be submitted. This has resulted in an 8 - 10 week processing time for complete applications, something that the City is working to address.

July 28, 2017 - Prime Minister to attend Canadian Red Cross Fundraiser in Revelstoke

The Prime Minister will be attending a Canadian Red Cross Fundraiser for those affected by the BC wildfires tomorrow and will deliver remarks at 2:45pm on Saturday. The event will take place at Grizzly Plaza, 111 MacKenzie Avenue. World Renowned Canadian Metis Performer and Red Cross Ambassador Tom Jackson will be performing at the event. Media should arrive no later than 2:15 p.m.

July 14, 2017 - City Hires Sheanna Moore as Deputy Director of Finance

 

The City of Revelstoke is pleased to announce that Sheanna Moore has been hired as the new Deputy Director of Finance. Sheanna Moore Photo contributed by BDO

Ms. Moore was previously employed with BDO Canada as a Staff Accountant in Kamloops and more recently in Revelstoke. Ms. Moore has her designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant with previous experience in municipal government and brings with her understanding of municipal finances, auditing, as well as strong supervisory experience. 

The City of Revelstoke is excited to have Ms. Moore as part of the team and is certain with her leadership skills, Ms. Moore will help staff move forward with efficiency and purpose. Ms. Moore’s appointment is effective Monday July 17, 2017 and the City welcomes her to the team.

July 7, 2017 - Special Occasion Fire Ban Implemented

Effective at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 7, 2017 and until further notice, all Special Occasion Fires are banned in the City of Revelstoke.

Special occasion fires include private yard fires as well as campfires/pit fires.

June 23, 2017 - Canadian Forces Snowbirds Come to Revelstoke

In celebration of Canada 150, the City of Revelstoke and the CSRD are excited to announce they will be hosting The Canadian Forces (CF) Snowbirds this July 25-26th, 2017. Planned events include a meet and greet with the Snowbirds at the Revelstoke Airport July 25th from 3:30-5:00pm, A Non-Aerobatic Air Display July 26th from 2:30-5:00pm, and a Dinner with the Snowbirds at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, July 25th from 6:30-9:00pm.

In order to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the Non Aerobatic Air Display, The City of Revelstoke will be hosting a public viewing event at Centennial Park on July 26th from 2:30-5:00pm where in addition to the Air Display there will be music, children’s activities, food options and live commentary by the CF Snowbirds. Both the Meet and Greet at the Airport and the public viewing event at Centennial Park are free events.

April 13, 2017 - City Hires Tania McCabe as the Director of Finance


The City of Revelstoke is pleased to announce that Tania McCabe has been hired as the new Director of Finance. Ms. McCabe’s appointment was effective on April 11, 2017.

Ms. McCabe has served as the Deputy Director of Finance for the City of Revelstoke for the past 9 years and as Acting Director of Finance for the past 6 months. Ms. McCabe is well experienced in financial administration and strategic financial planning and has lead Council through the current financial planning process. She has her Chartered Professional Accountant’s Designation as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.

March 1, 2017 - Nigel Whitehead awarded position as the City's Director of Development Services


It is with great pleasure that the City of Revelstoke welcomes Nigel Whitehead, as its’ new Director of Development Services, effective April 3, 2017.

Mr. Whitehead comes to Revelstoke from the City of Dawson Creek where he has been the Senior City Planner for the past two years. He has previous work experience as a Planner for the City of Williams Lake and Planning Officer and Planning Technician for the Cariboo Regional District. Mr. Whitehead has a Bachelor of Planning from the School of Environmental Planning at the University Of Northern British Columbia and is a candidate member of the Canadian Institute of Planners.

The City of Revelstoke is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicole Fricot, as its’ new Community Economic Development Officer effective February 27, 2017. Nicole will replace Alan Mason who is retiring from the position at the end of the month after a successful 15 year term of employment with the City.
