December 13, 2019 - Dawn Low Appointed Chief Administrative Officer

The City of Revelstoke is pleased to announce the appointment of Dawn Low, Director of Corporate Administration as Chief Administrative Officer after a successful seven months in the interim position.

Ms. Low is a life time resident of Revelstoke and her family has resided in this community for generations. With a background in business, she has owned and operated two local businesses and has worked for the City of Revelstoke for over 20 years. Ms. Low initially started her career with the City in the Finance Department, moving to Planning and has been a Manager and a Director in Corporate Administration for over 10 years.

November 15, 2019 - Steve Black Join's the City's Management Team

The City of Revelstoke is excited to welcome Steve Black in the position of Director of Engineering & Public Works. Mr. Black will compliment the City’s senior management team and be responsible for managing both the Engineering and Public Works departments.

October 9, 2019 - City of Revelstoke to Seek Input on New Official Community Plan

In 2019, Revelstoke City Council adopted strategic priorities to guide their decision making. Council priority one is about livability - to aspire to a high quality of life, and to be a desirable and livable city for all citizens and visitors. The first action under strategic priority one is to update the Official Community Plan (OCP) to articulate a current shared community vision, hear the voices of and engage the community.

September 25, 2019 - City Receives Opioid Dialogue Funding

The City of Revelstoke received grant funding from the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research through the University of Victoria to initiate community dialogues on opioid use.

The first event will occur on September 28th for Luna outside of City Hall, people will write thoughts on a seed that come to mind after watching a short video.  Please join us.  These seeds will follow us throughout the remainder of the Community Dialogue events.  They will be “planted” at each event and we'll watch them “grow” into understanding within our community.

August 30, 2019 - Rotary Club of Revelstoke Gives Back to Community

The City of Revelstoke would like to gratefully acknowledge the Rotary Club of Revelstoke for installing and supplying the shade structure over the playground equipment at Kovach Park.  The shade sail will block about 95% UV and reduce the heat for playground users.

August 29, 2019 - Council Approves 2019 Resort Municipality Initiative Funding Recommendations

Council approved funding recommendations made by the Tourism Initiatives Committee for the 2019 Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funding in the amount of $266,044.

City Council and the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture approved the Resort Development Strategy (RDS) for 2019-2021 earlier this year. Staff worked with tourism stakeholders and members of the Tourism Initiatives Committee to revise the Resort Municipality Initiatives program guidelines and application forms to better align with the new Program Funding Guidelines.

August 16, 2019 - Tech Strategy 2.0 Launched

The City of Revelstoke has received $100,000 in funding from the B.C. Rural Dividend Fund to build on the success of its community-wide Technology Strategy. Developed over the past three years with input from local business, tech entrepreneurs, educators and trainers, the Technology Strategy is focused on:

  • Promoting Revelstoke as being an innovative and technology friendly community
  • Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs to adopt digital technology
  • Supporting youth access to technology programming and digital technologies both within and external to school programming
  • Adoption of Smart Technologies for the purpose of improved economic, social and environmental resiliency
  • Development of investment opportunities in technology

August 13, 2019 - Grand Opening of Revelstoke Splash Pad

The City of Revelstoke is proud to announce the grand opening of the new Farwell Splash Pad (1401 First Street West). The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM on August 15th at the Splash Pad with music, cupcakes, pizza and Timbits!

August 1, 2019 - City of Revelstoke Increases Bike Parking in the Community

The City of Revelstoke is committed to making cycling an attractive and safe experience for residents and visitors of the community. We are excited to announce the expansion of the bicycle parking initiative throughout the downtown core. The implementation of bicycle facilities – including bicycle parking – can play a key role in promoting bicycle use as a means of achieving broader livability and sustainability goals, both of which are specified in Council’s 2019 Strategic Priorities.

July 26, 2019 - City of Revelstoke develops new 3-year Resort Development Strategy

The City has received approval from the Province for a new 3-year Resort Development Strategy (RDS), which will allocate over 2.6 million in funding for the next three years to projects and events that support the tourism industry and benefit the community. The development of the new RDS was led by the Tourism Initiatives Committee with input from local tourism stakeholders, facilitated by the Whistler Centre for Sustainability.

June 27, 2019 - City of Revelstoke's New Utility Vehicle

The City of Revelstoke, in partnership with BC Hydro and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District have purchased a new John Deere Gator Utility Vehicle (UTV) and Fire Suppression Skid. The UTV went into service on May 15, 2019 following one day of operator safety and pump operation training for firefighters.

June 26, 2019 - The City Unveils Council Strategic Plan

The City of Revelstoke is excited to announce Council’s Strategic Plan outlining their mission, vision, values, priorities and goals to help shape the future of the City.   

A workshop facilitated by local government expert and trainer Allison Habkirk, enabled Council to establish a Strategic Plan to move toward making Revelstoke an even better place to work, live and play. The Strategic Plan includes five categories under which senior staff members will focus resources and actions.

May 31, 2019 - Communication & Engagement Survey and Workshops Results

Thank you to those who took time to complete the City’s Communications Survey that closed on May 17th. Your feedback, together with feedback received from stakeholders, partners and staff, will inform a draft 2019-2022 Strategic Communication and Engagement Plan, expected in the coming weeks. 

The City polled staff, stakeholders and residents about their communications and engagement preferences, and on how to improve the City’s communications. The plan also considers Council’s Strategic Plan as a foundation for communication and engagement over the next three years.

May 27, 2019 - "Let's Go" Public Art Installation Scheduled This Week

The City is excited to announce that “Let’s Go” by Rabi’a Art, a public art piece selected by the Public Art Committee from Winlaw, BC will be arriving today. Watch for the mosaic and steel sculpture’s appearance in the planter box in front of City Hall this week.

The City will be leasing the piece from the Castlegar Sculpturewalk for one year, with the option to purchase at the end of the lease.

May 3, 2019 - Splash Park Construction Scheduled to Begin on May 6th

Jake & Jay Construction Ltd. will begin construction on the long anticipated Farwell Splash Park on Monday, May 6th. Construction is expected to last 10-12 weeks and will occur between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Saturday. During the construction period, the entire park will be closed to ensure public safety.

February 27, 2019 - Public Encouraged to Review the Community Guide to the 2019 Draft Budget and Long-Term Financial Plan

Council has given preliminary approval to the City’s draft 2019 budget and long-term financial plan, and the related 2019 tax increase, and is now seeking your valued input before adopting the City’s financial plan and tax rates bylaws. The public is encouraged to review the Guide to the 2019 draft budget and long-term financial plan and provide feedback to Council. The Guide is available on the City Website here and feedback can be sent to budget@revelstoke.ca

A public information meeting will also be held on March 7th at 3:00 pm in the Council Chambers, to provide the public an opportunity to share their concerns or comments to Council.

Guide to the 2019

February 8, 2019 - Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing Announcement

In response to Revelstoke’s need for more affordable housing for people, the Province has purchased a 1.21-hectare (three-acre) school property. The Province purchased the Revelstoke Board of Education’s Mount Begbie property at 420 Downie St. for $1.5 million. The property is large enough to accommodate a range of housing projects that could benefit tourism industry employees, low- to moderate-income families and seniors. 

Mayor Gary Sulz noted: “This project is an opportunity for us to work together to create housing that works for the community, supporting local families, businesses and seniors."

February 8, 2019 - City Developing New 3 Year Resort Development Strategy

Last year, the Province of BC announced that it was extending the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) for a further three years (2019 to 2021). Revelstoke is one of fourteen designated Resort Municipalities in the Province of British Columbia that are eligible to participate in the Initiative.

Mayor Gary Sulz noted: “The Resort Municipality Initiative has helped the community to upgrade and invest in our community tourism infrastructure. This has really improved the tourism experience in Revelstoke, and is a main reason why we have seen a strong increase in tourism visitation over the past several years. This is a real positive for the local economy”.
