Mail Ballot Voting Information

1. WHO CAN VOTE BY MAIL?

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 8 am to 8 pm, the City of Revelstoke will hold the general local elections for Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee.

Electors may vote by mail if they:

  • have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity, OR
  • expect to be absent from the City of Revelstoke on general voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities.

2. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

You are allowed to vote if you are registered as:

  • a resident elector (i.e., you live in the City of Revelstoke), OR
  • a non-resident property elector (i.e., you live elsewhere in BC but own property in the City of Revelstoke).

ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:

RESIDENT ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of the City of Revelstoke for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the City of Revelstoke for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

3.    HOW DO YOU REGISTER TO VOTE?

The City will not be utilizing a Voter's List for the 2018 Local Election, electors voting by mail, MUST complete the Declaration of Identity Form included in your mail ballot package.

4. REQUESTING A MAIL BALLOT PACKAGE

Please complete the application to vote by mail and submit the signed copy to the Administration Department by following the instructions on the form.
