2021 By-Election Mail Ballot Voting Information

1. WHO CAN VOTE BY MAIL?

On Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 8 am to 8 pm, the City of Revelstoke will hold the general local by-election for a vacant Councillor seat.

Ministerial Order M003, permits and encourages ALL eligible electors may vote by mail due to COVID-19. 

**Completed applications must be submitted by January 27 at 4pm to receive a mail ballot**

2. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

You are allowed to vote if you are registered as:

  • a resident elector (i.e., you live in the City of Revelstoke), OR
  • a non-resident property elector (i.e., you live elsewhere in BC but own property in the City of Revelstoke).

ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:

RESIDENT ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of the City of Revelstoke for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the City of Revelstoke for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

3.    HOW DO YOU REGISTER TO VOTE?

The City will be utilizing a Voter's List for the 2021 Local By-Election, electors voting by mail, MUST complete the Declaration of Identity Form included in your mail ballot package.

4. REQUESTING A MAIL BALLOT PACKAGE

Please complete the application to vote by mail and submit the signed copy to the Administration Department by following the instructions on the form. Applications must be received no later than Wednesday, January 27 at 4:00 pm.
